In 1952, German physicist, Winfried Otto Schumann set out to measure the the resonant frequencies of the Earth's magnetic field.
He understood that global electromagnetic resonances exist within the cavity between the Earth’s surface and the inner edge of the ionosphere.
In simple terms - there is a great deal of electrical activity between the surface of the Earth and the ionosphere. Some of this is in the form of standing waves of electricity and it was these that Schumann measured.
Schumann determined that the base atmospheric electromagnetic resonant frequency is 7.83 Hz. This means our atmosphere is continuously resonating with a radio frequency of 7.83 Hz, along with progressively weaker harmonics at around 14.3, 20.8, 27.3, and 33.8 Hz. These are known as the Schumann Resonances.
This frequency range is referred to as the Earth’s heartbeat, or vibration. It is the natural vibration of the earth and all life on the planet develops within it. Therefore, it is a natural vibration for us also. It is possibly no accident that Alpha and Theta brainwave frequency share the 8 Hz range. This is the brainwave state for light meditation, sleep and cell regeneration.
In house healing work, we believe that this natural frequency is disrupted by the Geopathic and Technopathic stress 'soup' we exist within which can have a detrimental effect on our wellbeing. However, is there any evidence to support this?
The results of an intriguing experiment first published in 1971 might just be that evidence. Rütger Wever a German scientist from the Max Planke Institute was interested in the human circadian rhythm, and how humans behave when placed in an environment where they have no external time cues and are free to choose their own sleep/wake and light/dark schedules.
Working with his close collaborator Jürgen Aschoff, he had an underground bunker constructed in Andechs, Germany, for use as a laboratory in which human subjects could be shielded from any external time cues, including variations in light, temperature, and electromagnetic fields.
After a few days, the research participants started to feel unwell, disorientated and generally out of sorts. However, when Wever introduced the frequency of 8 Hz, the participants reported feeling much better. Hmmmmm - well I find that pretty interesting!
Now, in full transparency, many scientists do not believe this to be anything significant and not evidence of the frequency effecting health.
But I invite you to do your own research and find your truth. Maybe even play around with the frequency yourself and see if exposing yourself to this on a regular basis makes you feel any better, or affects your moods positively! Here is a You tube video of the Schumann Resonance 7.83 Hz frequency. I am playing this as I am writing this and am feeling it!
